Breaking ground on our next big investment
This summer, Alfa Laval Business Unit Brazed and Fusion Bonded Heat Exchangers broke ground on their second production site in San Bonifacio, Italy. This exciting new project is part of the Business Unit’s record-breaking capacity expansion investments, which were set in motion to meet the ever-increasing demand for heat pumps in the global energy transition. This project is a fantastic opportunity for Alfa Laval, not just because it allows them to upgrade to the latest sustainable technologies, but to support the local economy. The new production site is set to cover a footprint of 13,000 square meters using solar panels as their main energy source.
“The decision to invest in a second Brazed Heat Exchanger (BHE) factory in San Bonifacio was approved to provide maximum support to our customers producing heat pumps, which also means that it is a strong contribution to reducing emissions and reaching our environmental goals.”
- Malgorzata Moczynska, Business Unit President
“Our continuous investment will enable Alfa Laval to serve our customer’s growing demand of products for sustainable applications as well as it underscores our commitment to the Veneto region.”
- Renata Vachova, Cluster President Southern Europe & Managing Director Adriatic
To mark this next giant step towards reaching the Paris agreement, a ceremony was held in July, where Alfa Laval lay the first factory stone. Business Unit President Malgorzata Moczynska was there to host the event, alongside Massimo Balestrini, Vice President of Operations and Site Manager. Joining to inaugurate the occasion was Mayor Giampaolo Provoli, who came to support on behalf of San Bonifacio’s 21,400 residents. As the second sustainable factory from Alfa Laval in the region, this is a wonderful opportunity to boost local employment levels
The second factory will be identical to its predecessor in terms of its dimensions, including the same efficient solar panelled roofing. The main difference is that the new site will be almost exclusively dedicated to production. Only 1,000 square meters will be used as office space, as opposed to the 3,000 available at Alfa Laval’s first site. In fact, once the new site is up and running next year, San Bonifacio will be the home of 500 employees across both sites.
“The design of the new factory started immediately after approval was granted. Today, two months on, the construction activities have officially started. The whole Project Team is now focusing all their energy on making sure that production will be ready to begin by summer 2024.”
- Massimo Balestrini, Vice President of Operations and Site Manager
